UNDER
14- END OF SEASON REVIEWS
As
seen in the Wellingborough
Town V Blackstones match day programme, this is the
Under 14's end of season review by Les Hornby:
Well
Done `The Doughboys` – Wellingborough Town U14’s
– League Champions 2006/07
After
losing only one game during the current season Wellingborough
Town under-14’s are champions.
From
the first training session the lads have worked really
hard to gain fitness and improve their overall game. As
it was our first season under the WTFC, Lee Howard and
myself are particularly pleased with the set up and attitude
of all concerned.
WTFC
have welcomed us to the club and provided a good platform
for us to progress.
Thanks must go to Martin
Goode, for the early Saturday mornings down at the
ground. Steve Whitney/ John Hughes
for arranging Sir Christopher Hatton as a superb venue
for home matches and training and Martin Patmore for an
excellent youth website and also his contributions as
secretary to the youth section at WTFC.
Onto
the players who have maintained such high standards over
the 2006/07 season.
GK:
Chris Brockwell - Very dependable, dodgy
hair though. Thinks he’s centre forward.
Def:
David Agostini - Strong in tackle for
little guy, cool under pressure.
Def:
Michael Daly - Excellent attitude, works
hard, wants to be a forward.
Def:
AJ Bradbury - Great attitude, quick,
good in tackle.
Def:
Joe McGill - Best header in club at 4`
nothing. Team man and great player. Likes a cup of tea.
Def:
Joe Drage - Great Stamina, good touch.
Never early.
Def:
Matt Gilmartin - Quick, great attitude,
solid, likes the odd air shot.
Def:
Ashley Talbot - Strong, excellent passer,
solid.
Mid:
Ollie Tilley - Good Touch, gritty and
wants to be a winger.
Mid:
James Dryden - Quick, great crosser of
ball.
Mid:
Aaron Rowell - Great dribbler, good passer.
Mid:
Sam Walpole - Action, good touch, good
passer, strong, shooting hmmm.
Mid:
Ryan Howard - Good touch, good passer.
Mid:
Elliott Hornby - Strong, good technique.
For:
Jared Harewood – Big, strong, great
attitude, goal scorer.
For:
Kurt Barber - Committed, strong runner,
goal scorer.
For:
Kieran Carter - Likes tricks, good awareness.
Special
mentions to Chris Brockwell, who has been superb
in goal, Ashley Talbot who has shown maturity
to match his ability and been a rock in defence, Sam
Walpole who has been outstanding covering the ground
in midfield. Up front Jared Harewood and Kurt
Barber have been on fire, complimenting each other,
working hard and scoring many fantastic goals.
As
mentioned the whole squad have been exceptional, training
sessions have been well attended with enthusiasm and attitude
maintained throughout.
Matches
played were of the highest caliber, excellent passing,
positive flowing football with some goals that would be
worthy of a mention on MOTD.
Opposing
managers are quick to comment on our style of play and
always complimentary with the respect and behaviour we
show towards them, especially when we have totally dominated
the match.
Particular
games that stood out
was the 3-1 against nearest rivals Sileby as Ryan Howard
2 and Joe McGill claimed our goals. The 1-0 in the cup
against same opposition this time Kurt Barber sealed it
with a super strike. But it was the game against Brackley
in the County Cup which still remains in my memory. Jared
Harewood with fantastic header from James Dryden’s
cross after a super dribble, then not to be out done Kurt
Barber with another great header from Aaron Rowell’s
wing play and pin point cross.
On
the one occasion when we lost against Billing in the league,
albeit against the run of play, we took the defeat gracefully,
maintained the excellent attitude and pressed forward,
winning all league games thereafter.
Our
K/O cup with Blisworth was unfortunate with us losing
2-0 after dominating throughout with Sam Walpole in outstanding
form. Again a great attitude was shown by the players,
which was particularly pleasing and once again noted by
the opposing manager and parents.
Now
as the season is drawing to a close we can all look back
with satisfaction. There are still many areas which individually
and collectively we can improve, but also there has been
so many highlights to bring a smile to our faces.
Myself
and Lee wish to thank all the parents for the many hours
spent ferrying the boys around and for the continued support
they have shown towards us. Big thanks to Ian Walpole
for goal keeping coaching and running the line.
Lastly,
thanks to the players for allowing us to share in your
achievement it has definitely been a reward that you have
earned.
Les
Hornby - Manager. Lee Howard
- Assistant Manager.
