Wellingborough Town 2-2 Moulton Magpies

Goal Scorers: Jared, Otis

A hard fought game with two good sides on show. Twice Wellingborough Town took the lead only to be punished by bad concentration.

Otis scored from a free kick in his own half, which caught out the Moulton keeper, although it was placed perfectly.

Somewhat against the run of play Moulton equalised in unfortunate circumstances, the referee missing a foul deep in Moulton’s half, which resulted in our player being carried off, Moulton played on and scored, unfortunate, but a lesson learned for the lads.

Wellingborough Town pressed throughout the 2nd half.  A fantastic goal after great control and turn by Jared Newman  saw Wellingborough Town regain the lead. Moulton equalised. A culmination of corners couldn’t see us gain advantage again.

FT 2-2

Sunday 21/12/2008
Wellingborough Town 8-0 Bugbrooke

Wellingborough TOwn enjoyed a comfortable win.

Two stunning goals from outside the box by Hornby, plus a brace from Jared Newman ensured victory.

Further goals from Harewood, Barber, Dickens and another great strike by Ollie Tilley made it 8-0.

Sunday 14/12/2008
Wellingborough Town 2-4 Soccer Stars K/O Cup

Goal Scorers: Jake, Jared

Wellingborough Town started slowly and were punished with 2 early goals conceded in the first 20 minutes and spurned a number of good chances.

They started much better in the 2nd half taking control with new boy Sami Speitan playing exceptionally well. They were rewarded for their efforts with 2 great strikes from Jake Dickins and Jarrad  Harewood.

A penalty conceded from a handball was converted by Soccer Stars with Welliingborough Town pushing for the equaliser.

Pushing forward saw them concede a fourth goal.

Sunday 7/12/2008
Wellingborough Town 1-3 Parkland Tigers

Goal Scorers: Jake

An end to end game with two good teams. Wellingborough Town pressed throughout the match, but poor finishing gave Parklands confidence allowing them victory.

It could have been so different, but we have no complaints.

The lack of penetration and hitting the target allowed Parklands opportunities, which in fairness to them, they took. Both teams played some excellent football, but as always goals make the difference.

Unfortunately, shooting and sloppy defending cost us dear on the day. It wasn’t until a dubious penalty, converted by Jake Dickens that we actually found the net. FT 3-1

Sunday 30/11/2008
Wellingborough Town 6-2 Soccer Stars

Goal Scorers: Dickens, Harewood, Hornby (2), Bradbury (2)

An end to end game in very difficult conditions.

Wellingborough Town scored early through Dickens and never looked back. Further goals from Harewood and a brace from Hornby, one a volley from outside the box and AJ Bradury sealed the win.

It was especially pleasing for Bradbury who took his goals calmly. The first a shot from the right into the roof of the net, the second a drive across the keeper.

Soccer stars played some neat football at times working both their goals very well.

FT6-2

Sunday 23/11/2008
Wootton 0-4 Wellingborough Town - County Cup

Goal Scorers: Dickens (2), Harewood, Rowell

Wellingborough Town were up for this game after suffering their only defeat at the hands of Wootton. From the kick off we played with pace and lots of energy.

Rowell scored after a through ball from Harewood, Harewood rounded the keeper to make it 2-0. Jake Dickens was back to his lively self and got his rewards after a through ball from Walpole he got good first touch and slotted home. He then scored the goal of the game with a terrific 25yarder. HT 4-0

Wootton gave everything throughout the game a credit to Eddie their manager. Unfortunately they had a lad sent off more out of frustration than anything else.

Wellingborough Town pushed forward and Gilmartin was unlucky with a couple of efforts.

Wellingborough keeper Brockwell made a fantastic finger tip save from a shot heading for the top corner. A clean sheet at last. !

FT 4-0

Sunday 16/11/2008
Sileby Rangers 4-4 Wellingborough Town

Goal Scorers: Wilkins, Harewood, Hornby, Dryden

A disappointing result for Wellingborough Town , after leading 3-1 at HT. Although to be fair it was a good game with end to end attacking.

Wellingborough Town looked dangerous going forward with Dryden, Walpole, Hornby and Harewood driving forward from midfield. It was Wilkins who opened the scoring with a neat volley inside the box.

Then Sileby equalised from corner.

Wellingborough Town pushed forward with Hornby unleashing a 25rd strike into the top corner, which was matched by Drydens volley for the third.

HT3-1 and looking comfortable, how wrong.

Sileby pushed forward after the break and scored a great 2nd, a defensive mistake gave them the 3rd.  Then a 4th from slack marking at a corner left a tense end.

Harewood came to the rescue after good work from Hornby and Gilmartin.

FT 4-4 Wellingborough Town lost shape and composure again too many individual errors cost Wellingborough the victory.

Sunday 9/11/2008
Wellingborough Town 3-4 Wooton

Goal Scorers: Harewood, Dickens, Gillmartin

A disappointing result for Wellingborough Town, but one which Wootton deserved.

After last weeks solid defending, we lost shape and composure. All over the park the players looked sluggish and gave away silly freekicks in dangerous areas.

Woottons right back had a stormer with 2 great goals from dead ball situations.

Although Wellingborough Town never gave up and came close after Matt Gilmartin headed in the third they just never had enough pace and ball retention to deserve anything.

It was end to end stuff but on the day too many individual errors cost Wellingborough Town.

Sunday 2/11/2008
Wellingborough Town 3-1 Moulton Magpies

Goal Scorers: Walpole, Harewood, Dickens

A great result against our close rivals.

Three fantastic goals the first saw Jared Harewood feed Jake Dickens who had pulled off the defenders shoulder and shot powerfully past the Moulton Keeper., Jared Harewood then added the second cutting in from the right after being put through by Aaron Rowell and unleashing a great left foot strike into the bottom corner.

The third came with Hornby playing the ball out to Sam Walpole who turned his marker and sent a curling shot into the top left corner from the edge of the box.

HT3-0

Moulton applied pressure to the Wellingborough Town defence, but with goalkeeper Brockwell in good form openings were hard to come by.

Otis Onusu marshalled the defence.

Wellingborough had a few more chances  in the second half but Moulton were able to peg one back with about 10 mins remaining. FT3-1

Sunday 19/10/2008
Wellingborough Town 2-1 Raunds Town

Goal Scorers: Harewood, Wilkins

Against the wind in the first half it was going to be difficult.

Raunds Town applied most of the pressure which Wellinborough Town seemed to cope with until a 25yrd strike gave Chris Brockwell no chance.

Wellingborough Town regrouped and tried to push forward mainly through James Dryden. Brockwell had to make a fantastic close range save to keep the score 0-1 HT.

This really was a game of two halves Wellingborough Town started to move the ball around more quickly, penetrating and stretching the Raunds defence. Elliott Hornby, Sam Walpole and Ollie Tilley were the driving force.

Aaron and James always  looking dangerous out wide. It was from Elliott’s free kick which Aaron pulled back for the impressive Jared Harewood to slot home.

Wellingborough Town grew in strength, with their defence looking solid they pushed in search of a win. It was left to substitute Daniel Wilkins to be the hero running clear and calmly finishing past the advancing keeper.

FT 2-1

Sunday 5/10/2008
Wellingborough Town 2-0 Daventry Drayton Grange

Goal Scorers: Harewood, Gilmartin

Wellingborough Town pressed from the start but didn’t bring their shooting boots.

It wasn’t until late in the first half that Elliott Hornby hit the bar with a good shot which was followed in by Jared Harewood. HT 1-0.

Drayton Grange continued to prove a difficult side to break down until fine work by Jake Dickens allowed Matt Gilmartin to neatly slip the ball home through the keepers legs.

Sunday 28/9/2008
Wellingborough Town 5-1 Obelisk Black – K/O Cup

Goal Scorers: Harewood, Dickens (2), Newman, Wilkins

Great goals for Wellingborough Town from Jake Dickens 2, Jared Harewood, Daniel Wilkins, Jared Newman...completed the win.

Sunday 14/9/2008
Bugbrooke S.M 1-2 Wellingborough Town

Goal Scorers: Dickens (2)

MOTM:

A welcome start to the new season.

Wellingborough Town came up against a strong, willing and able Bugbrooke.

Both sides showed early season cobwebs but lost none of their commitment. A goal in each half from Jake gave Wellingborough Town a deserved win.

Both goals came from the spot after Jake had been brought down, another penalty decision left the crowd bemused but fortunately it didn’t cost us the points.

It was pleasing to see the Otis make a solid debut along with Dan and Jared.
