CANCELLED GAMES
Several games were cancelled this weekend due to the Weather and this is very disappointing for everybody. However we must put the Health & Safety of the players first.

If there is absolutely no way that a game will take place on a Sunday, for example waterlogged pitch, then the game will be called off the day before and everybody will be told about this.

However a frozen pitch is a more difficult decision to take as it is difficult to predict how severe an overnight frost will be.

Coaches typically arrive at the ground an hour before kick off and yesterday certain areas of the ground was frozen, most noticeably the penalty area, whilst others were fine.

We thought that the harder areas may soften up by the time we kicked off making the pitch playable, however this did not happen.

The goalmouth's were like concrete and would not take a stud. Goal Keepers would not of been able to dive, and if a player had bumped their head then they may of ended up with concussion.

Apologies to all of the parents and players that turned up but the weather is outside our control.

HELP URGENTLY NEEDED
Wellingborough Town is looking to recruit some referees for our junior games (Under 11 - Under 13) played on a Sunday morning or afternoon.

Home teams are required to arrange a referee for their games as their is a massive shortage at the moment. It is very difficult to coach and referee at the same time which is why we are seeking volunteers.

Referees are paid £15 for the game and many clubs encourage players from older teams to take up this role. Parents are also encouraged to volunteer for this vital role.

No experience is necessary all though you do have to be over 16. Training courses will be provided if needed. Please contact Martin if you can help on 07817 017053.

FONEAID HELPS WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN YOUTH SECTION TO RAISE VITAL FUNDS
Wellingborough Town Football Club Youth Section has registered for the

FoneAid mobile phone recycling campaign to play their part in Foneaidreducing 90 million redundant mobile phones in the UK, prevent them from going to landfill and raise money at the same time.

The club joined FoneAid to raise money for the club. Sponsors are hard to find and parents already pump lots of money into the club. Any money raised will go towards every day costs such as pitches, kits, training costs etc. In exchange for the collected mobiles FoneAid will donate £3 for every phone collected, of any age and condition and, in addition, for every 100 phones a £100 voucher to spend in the High Street.

Martin Patmore, Youth Section Secretary, said “FoneAid is a fantastic initiative and one that Wellingborough Town is delighted to be involved with. Many homes have old mobile phones lying around doing nothing. I know from my own household we have five! The money we raise from collecting old mobile phones will be used to put our youth section coaches on training courses. We have set an initial target to collect 200 phones which will give us £600.00 and this money will pay for 6 coaches to gain their FA level one coaching certificate. Not only that but the club is also helping to protect the environment ensuring that the phones we collect do not end up in landfill sites”.

The FoneAid recycling campaign is aimed directly at charities, sports clubs, hospitals, youth and voluntary organisations, intent on fundraising. FoneAid provide all the materials needed to run a campaign including posters and collection bags, and they even courier the phones back to the warehouse at the end of the campaign.

The collected mobile phones are either recycled or reused in developing countries where landline networks are unreliable, patchy or even non-existent, ensuring that 100% of the mobiles collected are divert from landfill sites where they can cause serious environmental problems.

Suzy Kelsall, Operations Manager of FoneAid said; “An estimated 15 million phones are upgraded every year and FoneAid provides groups and organisations with an environmentally responsible way to dispose of them and raise cash at the same time. It is a clear winner as a fundraising mechanism for items on any organisation’s shopping list from sports kits to ultrasound scanners.  However, the best bit is phones of any age or condition count towards the collection!”

If anyone has any old mobile phones that they would like to donate, or if they have Children aged 6- 13 who are interested in playing football then please can they contact Martin Patmore at Wellingborough Town Football Club on 07817 017053 or visit www.wtys.co.uk for more details.

APRIL 2008

END OF SEASON REVIEW
The Wellingborough Town Football Club Youth Section has grown very quickly since we first set up the club in May 2004.  We started off with just two teams and have grown to seven in just four seasons.  This season has seen many highlights in both Mini Soccer and Boys Football.

Our youngest team, the Under 7’s had a fantastic first season in football and lost only one game.  Likewise the Under 8’s had a very successful year losing only two games.  The Under 10’s played their final year of mini soccer and have made massive improvements winning three more game than they won last year.

Our Under 11’s enjoyed their first season at 11 A side and finished a respectable fourth place in a very tight lead. The Under 12’s had a mixed season playing some nice football at times even if the results did not always go their way.

Our newly formed Under 13’s were clearly in the wrong league and romped home with the title with four games to play.  The lads had a tough season off the field and credit to them for staying together, winning the title and narrowly missing out on a shot at the League Cup Final.

Our Under 15’s have, once again, been quite brilliant at times.  First they won the Alan Burgess Cup final against tough opposition.  They then secured a League & Cup double with a victory in their last ‘Must Win’ game of the season.

Well done to the Players, Supporters, Coaches and everybody else involved with the teams for making this a very successful season for the club.

Lookout for The Traveling Doughboy at First Team Games!

Wellingborough Towns Travelling DoughboyI am the traveling Doughboy and I love to follow the Doughboys wherever I can.

You can find me at our home, The Dog and Duck, London Road at most of our home games and then follow my tour around the world as I go off to visit new places, make new friends and tell everyone about our great football club...... Wellingborough Town.

I recently bought my hat and scarf as it was cold during the winter and I love them so much, I wear them everywhere I go around Wellingborough and when I visit my friends. I'm not allowed to wear them in bed though, even though I want to! I leave them at the end of my bed.

Why not come down and see if you can find me. I can usually be found in the stand singing with the rest of the crowd as we cheer on the Doughboys.

I look forward to seeing you soon and cheering on the Doughboys with me!
