WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN ACHIEVE CHARTER STANDARD – DEVELOPMENT CLUB LEVEL
Wellingborough Town Football Club is delighted to announce that they have secured FA Charter Standard at Development Club Level.
The FA Charter Standard Scheme is best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for clubs working with young people. As a benchmark for quality, it will improve the playing experience for all.
Receiving the award Martin Patmore, Secretary of Wellingborough Town Youth Section commented “This is a fantastic achievement for our club and shows the dedication of all of our coaches in getting themselves a Coaching qualification. I would like to thank all of the Coaches and unsung heroes involved behind the scenes with the administration of The Club in helping us to achieve Charter Status.”
Wellingborough Town is the only Club in the area to have achieved the Development Club award which highlights the aspirations of the Club moving forward.
Wellingborough Town Youth Section has quickly grown from two teams in 2004 to eight youth teams this season. Charlie Stewart, Jack Patmore and Liam Chowney helped to collect the award and are the Clubs longest serving players. The three players have all been with The Club since the first training session in April 2004 with each player having made over 100 appearances for the Club.
Wellingborough Town Youth Section has Six FA Level 1 coaches and plans to provide three coaches with Level 1 training over the next 12 months. Wellingborough Town also have two Level 2 coaches and a Level 2 Goalkeeping Coach.
Plans are already being implemented to work closer with the senior teams and Wellingborough Town also has plans to introduce dedicated girls teams within the next two seasons.
Wellingborough Town Football Club is always looking out for players who can improve our teams. They are especially keen to hear from any 15 year old boys who are not currently playing for a team and are interested in getting back in to football.

WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN HELP AT SUMMER FUNDAY
Members from Wellingborough Town Youth Section recently helped out with the The Sophie Story Summer Fun Day 2009, helping them to raise £2500.00 for a Chase Hospice. The purpose of the event was to help raise funds for Chase Children’s Hospice which receives little statutory funding and costs around £4million a year to run, meaning that it relies on its supporters for 93% of its income.
Wellingborough Town sponsored and ran a Penalty Shoot out at the event which was attended by hundreds or People at The Holly Bush in Frensham on Sunday 23rd August.
Sophie suffers from a rare form of mitochondrial disease that has made her muscles extremely weak. Because of this she has global hypotonia meaning she is very floppy, has a tracheostomy and is permanently connected to a ventilator to help her breathe. She cannot swallow and therefore is fed through a tube directly into her tummy and at twelve months old she cannot sit or hold her head up.

WEMBLEY! WEMBLEY!
What a fantastic day Wellingborough Town Under 10's had in London on August 6th at the McDonald's Festival of Football.
A pleasant trip to the capital really started to emerge as a reality when we joined the throng of coaches from all over the country homing in on a fantastic park only a stones throw from Wembley Stadium itself. To all intents and purposes it looked as though we were actually in the country with the expanse of trees and fields where the lads were to perform in the first part of the day.
Our first game was against Newcastle Juniors who looked much more physically stronger than we were. Although we held them for a time they eventually got the ascendancy and ran out 4-0 winners. If we had had an opportunity of playing against a lesser team in our first match having only just travelled for two hours against our opponents who stayed in London overnight, we might have performed better.
The crowds, the colourful sideshows of football skills and the atmosphere soon settled our squad and they went on to win their second match 6-2. The third match was a close affair but we eventually ran out victorious 2-0. A wholly satisfying series.
A short trip of 10 minutes saw us arrive at Wembley. The excited chatter of hundreds of youngsters from all over the country, made up of members of 60 teams selected by McDonalds to take part in this Festival, grew in intensity as we entered the stadium.
The pitch looked like a beautiful suede green carpet. The moving perimeter boards and the endless rows of seats seeming to spread for hundreds of feet. To see our boys eagerly awaiting their turn to tread the hallowed turf, with hundreds of others in their gaily coloured team kits was exciting, even for several of us who had been privileged enough to have seen it all before. But on those occasions our boys, in Doughboys colours, were not involved. A rare site which really must have excited the proud parents and grandparents who were there to witness it.
Pre-match photo-shoots with Geoff Hurst, the 1966 World Cup hat-trick star, for all the teams seemed to take an eternity and when our boys eventually got onto the field the game seemed to flash by. I think the occasion got the better of them as they were definitely second best to their opponents. However, a closely fought match was decided with the opponents scoring the winner with the last kick of the match. The result was incidental, it was the taking part that was important.
To see the squad wearily climbing the hundred steps to the Royal
Box, with the myriad cameras flashing and the mobile phones working overtime, is something which I, and I've no doubt, the other 50 or so Doughboys supporters will never forget.
The club, the boys themselves and the parents owe a big 'thank-you' to Perry Akhtar our McDonalds sponsor for giving us the opportunity of a lifetime. The club officials who accompanied the squad are also proud at the way the coaches and squad performed in their play and their overall conduct throughout.
Thanks to all concerned from an old sentimental Doughboy loyalist who as experienced a day that I shall cherish because we, The Doughboys, were involved in an event at the home of football.

UNDER 10's TO PLAY AT WEMBLEY STADIUM
Wellingborough Town Under 10 squad have been invited to travel to London on Thursday 6th August and compete in a Tournament sponsored by McDonalds. They will also receive professional coaching from Eric Harrison the coach responsible for coaching David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs whilst working as Youth Team Coach at Manchester United.
They will then be transported to the New Wembley Stadium where they will appear in a photo shoot, along with other competing teams and then play a game on the illustrious turf. After the game they will have an opportunity of walking up the staircase to the Royal Box, like the players at Cup-finals and International games, to receive a commemorative medallion from the guests of honour. (We are unsure who they will include but the former World Cup star, Geoff Hurst, works for McDonalds and may be in attendance)
What a fantastic day out that the youngsters will remember the rest of their lives. We are indebted to Perry for this opportunity.
We are hoping to organise a coach for the youngsters, their families and any other members of the club who may wish to visit the home of football and see for themselves what it is like from close quarters.

REFEREES REQUIRED
Wellingborough Town is looking to recruit some referees for our junior games (Under 11 - Under 14) played on a Sunday morning or afternoon.
Home teams are required to arrange a referee for their games as their is a massive shortage at the moment. It is very difficult to coach and referee at the same time which is why we are seeking volunteers.
Referees are paid £10 - £15 (depending on experience) for the game and many clubs encourage players from older teams to take up this role. Parents are also encouraged to volunteer for this vital role.
No experience is necessary all though you do have to be over 16. Training courses will be provided if needed. Please contact Martin if you can help on 07817 017053.

RAY WINSTONE HELPS LAUNCH THE RESPECT PARENT GUIDE
Hollywood star Ray Winstone has lent his support to The FA’s Respect Programme, starring in a brand new film to promote positive parental support on the sidelines.
The film sees Winstone play two roles – an overbearing father who shouts abuse from the touchline and a “Godfather” style character who is watching the game from afar and calls for people to use their common sense at youth football.
Winstone believes that parents need to lose the “win at all costs” attitude and bring some enjoyment back to the game: “Kids want their parents to watch them play football but they want to be supported by them, not embarrassed. You’ve got all these adults screaming and shouting on the touchline but seven and eight year olds aren’t interested in tactics. They just want to play the game, be their hero for the day and dream of scoring a goal at Wembley Stadium.”
The film has been made to promote a free online Respect Parent Guide. The Guide highlights examples of poor behaviour and, more importantly, gives advice on how it can be improved.
Respect is The Football Association’s programme to address unacceptable behaviour in football – on and off the pitch. On average, 7,000 referees quit football every year at because of the abuse they receive from players and from the sidelines. Lots of children also pack it in because of the attitude and actions of over-enthusiastic and pushy parents.
In response, the Respect programme provides a series of tools for leagues, clubs, coaches, players and parents from grassroots to elite football to ensure a safe, positive environment in which to enjoy the game. These tools include agreed codes of conduct, sideline barriers co-funded by the Football Foundation and ensuring captains work with referees to manage player behaviour.
You can watch the Ray Winstone film below or click HERE to see The FA Respect Parent Guide.

WATCH OUT FOR OVERPLAY
‘Overplay’ is a term used to describe the cause of injuries found in players and athletes due to excessive overuse of specific parts of their body. Young players are particularly vulnerable to ‘overuse’ injuries caused by overplay.
The FA has produced a leaflet, which can be accessed by clicking on ‘here’, to alert those people who have direct contact with our best young players to the risks of overplay. This includes parents, coaches, school teachers and league officials. It is the responsibility of all who are involved in the development of young players to look after their medical interests.
