South Rushden 0-7 Wellingborough Town
Scorers: Sterling (2), Wenham (2), McBride, Hare, Betts
Man of the Match: Plummer
Wellingborough Town controlled todays game from start to finish, moving the ball well and firing many shots on target.
First half goals for IJ Sterling, Joe Wenham, and a bullet from Callum McBride gave Wellingborough a 3-0 lead HT.
Goal of the match from for IJ Sterling who curled home from 20 yards, a well deserved strike from Jordan Hare,a cool finish from Ryan Betts when the ball fell to him in the six yard box and a fantastin piece of individual skill who flicked the ball over his head to turn the defender and fire home secured the points for Wellingborough Town.
In his final match in management, Assistant Manager Drew Brierley awarded the MOM to Jack Plummer who controlled the midfield with a good range of passing.
Well Done lads.

Wellingborough Town 2-1 Thrapston Town
Scorers: Plummer (Pen), Sterling
Man of the Match: TEAM
The Wellingborough line up was like a scene from Holby City today with Jordan (hamstring), Jack Plummer (ankle), Joe (thigh), Jack Patmore (sickness) all carrying injuries, however this turned out to be a good even contest with both teams battling hard.
Chances at both ends and a big Wellingborough Town penalty appeal turned down after IJ was clearly shoved in the back by a Thrapston player using both hands whilst clean through.
0-0 HT
Thrapston scored quickly after the restart but Wellingborough Town were awarded a penalty for another shove in the back, albeit with only a single hand by the Thrapston Player this time. Plummer cooly scored to equalize and deservedly even the scores.
Plona bravely made a fine save one on one with the Thrapston forward (who went in studs up) to keep the sides level.
Another Wellingborough Town Penalty appeal was turned down for a third shove in the back, again using both hands, however the referee ignored the appeal and sent a Wellingborough Town player off for complaining (strongly and he should have known better, no complaints from me in regards to the decision).
Wellingborough held out for 15 minutes with 10 men and Joe Wenham was (once again) crudely chopped down from behind in the centre circle and a free kick was awarded to Wellingborough Town. I did not see what happened next as I was treating the injury sustained to Joe but IJ secured the points for Wellingborough with a last minute goal!
The referee may have missed one or two Wellingborough Town penalty decsions today, but the club fully support the RESPECT CAMPAIGN and understand that, as with players, referees do their best.
Well done lads. Another battling performance to secure three points.

Rushden & Higham 2-3 Wellingborough Town
Scorers: Jordan Hare (2), Jack Plummer
Man of the Match: Charlie Stewart
Bruising from paintballing the day before, two players suspended, one player pulling out an hour before the match, another not turning up at all left Wellingborough Town with just 11 players; not the best preparation for what is usually a physical encounter, however Wellingborough Town have an excellent record at Haydn Road and the team was confident and in high spirits.
Rushden & Higham dominated in terms of possession but Wellingborough Town were well organised and defended well. A devastating 5 minute spell in which Wellingborough Town scored three times changed the match.
A long range beast of a cross / shot from Jack Plummer crept in under the bar and gave Wellingborough the lead. A magnificent turn and shot by debutant Jordan Hare doubled the lead two minutes later, followed by an intercepted square pass that was put away by Jordan Hare.
0-3 HT
Rushden & Higham pulled one back quickly in second half and were awarded a penalty shortly after. Krystian Plona saved the penalty well, diving to his left and Wellingborough gained composure to clear their lines.
Charlie Stewart was struggling with injury and Wellingborough went down to 10 men after Jordan Hare felt his hamstring pull.
Wellingborough were pinned back for much of the last 30 mins but looked dangerous on the break when IJ had the ball.
Wellingborough Town held out in the end for a well fought out victory.
11 heroes on the pitch today as the lads clearly wanted the victory and worked hard to get players behind the ball. It was difficult to pick out a MOM but in the end Charlie Stewart was nominated who played on through injury so we didn’t go down to nine men.
WELL DONE BOYS!!

Corby Kingswood 1-10 Wellingborough Town
Scorers: Ryan Betts (6), Scott Pryke (2), Ijuha Sterling, Jack Plummer
Man of the Match: Ryan Betts
Wellingborough Town dominated this game in a very one sided encounter . In no particular order six goals and a Man of the Match performance for Ryan Betts, a brace for Scott Pryke (his first ever goals!) and further goals for Jack Plummer and IJ Sterling.
All of the lads worked hard today and kept their discipline and shape well throughout the game.
Special mention to Kingswood who never gave up especially their keeper who made some fine saves.
Well done boys.

Kettering Generals 4-5 Wellingborough Town
Scorers: Ijuha Sterling (3), Ryan Betts, Callum McBride
Man of the Match: Scott Pryke
Never has the old football Cliche 'Its a game of two halves' been more appropriate.
Wellingborough Town started the match brightly and had Generals on the back foot. Early chances for Sterling and Brierley. Wellingborough were passing the ball pretty confidently and were getting in at will. It wasn't long before the floodgates opened with a first half hat trick from Sterling, a rare header from Betts and a demon header from McBride who, well rose like a Salmon to coin another Cliche.
0-5 to Wellingborough Town at Half Time. I blame the managers half time team talk because it all went down hill from there.
I'm not sure if it was the changes at the back, the eagerness of more players to get on the score sheet or the joking about on the pitch but Wellingborough Town were as sloppy in the second half as I have ever seen them.
Poor defending, laziness, silly little fouls in dangerous areas, lack of concentration and individual errors all contributed to a Generals fight back, handed to them on a Blue and Yellow plate by Wellingborough Town.
It was by no means one way and Wellingborough had plenty of chances. Brierley found himself one on one and was crudely rugby tackled by the Generals keeper, only for the free kick to be wasted. Sterling, Salim, Wenham all had good opportunities but in the end Wellingborough Town just about got away with it to secure the League double over Generals.
Special mention to MOM Scott Pryke who had his best game of the season.
Sunday 4/12/2011
Wellingborough Town 4-1 Kettering Generals
Scorers: Joe Wenham (2), Ryan Betts, Joe Core
Man of the Match: Joe Wenham
Sunday 4/12/2011
Corby Diamonds 0-8 Wellingborough Town (League Cup)
Scorers:
Man of the Match: Callum Mcbride
Too many poor performances cost Wellingborough today, Midfields failed to track back and full backs failed to deal with crosses.
Special mention to Callum Mcbride, Scott Pryke, Joe Core and Jack Patmore who appeared to try to the best of their abilities
Sunday 13/11/2011
FC Aztec 3-1 Wellingborough Town
Scorers: Abdul Salim
Man of the Match: Jack Patmore
I am not quite sure how Wellingborough Town managed to lose this game. I don't think any of the lads, will ever be in a team, that creates so many chances and manages to miss so many.
Wellingborough Town had much of the early play with good chances for Sterling, Plummer and Brierley.
Aztec took the lead after both managers clearly witnessed the Rothwell forward handle the ball, not just with one hand but with two catching it as it bounced and dropping it to his feet.
Aztec doubled their lead shortly afterwards after the Wellingborough Town keeper dropped a routine catch for Aztec to easily tap home. 2-0 HT.
Wellingborough Town started the second half with a much more positive attitude and had Aztec pinned back in their own half for much of the early period. Ironically Aztec wen 3-0 up after another defensive mistake from the Wellingborough Town centre back who made little attempt to clear his lines.
Committing players forward, Wellingborough Town were getting in time after time with good chances for Salim, Sterling, Plummer, Betts, Wenham, Core. Salim finally pulled one back for Wellingborough Town and it seemed only a matter of time before they would score further goals.
Further chances for Wellingborough Town but amazingly few hit the target.
Good performances from Scott Pryke, Joe Wenham, Jack Plummer, Joe Core but todays man of the match was Jack Patmore for some crucial tackles, good headers and positive attitude getting forward and back.

Wellingborough Town 0-4 Corby Diamonds
Scorers:
Man of the Match: Joe Core
A few Wellingborough Town players tried hard at times against a strong Diamonds team but a lack of discipline and lack of belief cost the team in the end.
Corby Diamonds scored with their first attack after the Wellingborough defenders were caught too high up the field. Wellingborough Town held their own with decent chances for Brierley and Sterling but Wellingborough Town didn't work hard enough as as individuals and a team and failed to find the net.
Wellingborough were caught out again for the Corby second and lost their discipline, getting involved with silly fouls and off the ball incidents. Giving away possession and a lack of shape resulted in two more goals for Corby.
The players let themselves down and too many players didn't seem up for todays game. Special mention to Man of the Match Joe Core who did well at the back.
Sunday 30/10/2011
Ise Lodge Kites 4-1 Wellingborough Town
Scorers: Ijuha Sterling
Man of the Match: Abdul Salim
A poor performance from Wellingborough Town today during a match in which Ise Lodge were by far the better team.
Ise Lodge were allowed to have far too much time on the ball in central midfield areas, allowing them to pass around Wellingborough who failed to close down at all. Ise Lodge took the lead with a fine strike which literally did break the net, but Wellingborough Town equalized quickly.
1-1 HT.
Comical defending for the Ise Lodge second, a penalty for their third and further poor defending for their third gave Ise a decent win.
MOM was Abdul for his tireless running but a special mention to Callum who dug deep to help prevent further goals.
Sunday 23/10/2011
Wellingborough Town 3-0 South Rushden
Scorers: Betts, Brierley, Plummer
Man of the Match: Jack Plummer
Wellingborough Town looked comfortable today but struggled to find any kind of rhythm in the final third during the first half. MOM Jack Plummer controlled this midfield and found his passing range early on during the game. Betts struck for Wellingborough Town with a well taken free kick.
1-0 HT
Wellingborough Town took control of the game in the second half looking sharper when attacking and moving the ball much quicker.
A fine curling shot from Drew Brierley doubled the Wellingborough Town lead and Jack Plummer secured the victory with a well driven shot.
Further chances for Sterling, Wenham, Betts and Salim but the Match ended Wellingborough Town 3-0 South Rushden.
Sunday 2/10/2011
Thrapston Town 4-2 Wellingborough Town
Scorers: Wenham (2).
Man of the Match: Sterling
A bitterly disappointing performance from Wellingborough Town today during a match in which they crashed to a 2-4 defeat. Maybe it was the heat, maybe it was the lack of substitutes but whatever the reason the performance was lethargic.
Thrapston Town started far better than Wellingborough Town who were second to everything. When Wellingborough did win the ball they chose to hoof the ball forward which was easily dealt with by the Thrapston back four, setting them up for another attack. Whilst defending, Wellingborough gave the opposition far too much time on the ball, failed to close down at all and were guilty of ball watching.
Thrapston raced to a 3-0 lead by HT.
Wellingborough Town looked more lively in the second half but it was Thrapston that scored to give them a 4-0 lead.
An inspired Ijuha Sterling played out of skin to try and get Wellingborough Town back into the game. Special mention to Joe Wenham, Joe Core, Abdul Salim and Kristian Plana who also had excellent games, but the remainder of the team were largely anonymous.
Joe Wenham pulled two goals back for Wellingborough Town and was on his way for his third before being crudely taken out of the game by a reckless challenge.
Sunday 25/9/2011
Wellingborough Town 2-1 Rushden & Higham
Scorers: Salim, Wenham.
Man of the Match: Plano
Wellingborough Town have a good record against Rushden & Higham and went into this match full of confidence. As usual today's match was a competitive encounter between two evenly matched teams.
The first half was end to end with plenty of chances at both ends. Rush den looked dangerous playing off the last defender but couldn't find their passing range. Plano dealt with the miss hit passes and looked comfortable in goal. Wellingborough had their chances with Sterling getting in on a few occasions with the Rush den keeper making some good saves. Both teams hitting the wood work. Rush den took the lead towards the end of the half 0-1 HT.
Rushden & Higham started the brighter in the second half but Wellingborough Town soon started to get back into the match. A well taken goal from Buddle Slim opened the game up.
Rushden & Higham looked fitter and started to control the mid filed as Wellingborough Town started to tire as the game wore on. Wellingborough Town defended well (just about) and after a fine break, Joe Wenham got on the end of a Ijuha sterling cross to give Wellingborough Town all three points.
I was tied up running the line today so asked Ross Plummer for his Man of the Match. Ross nominated Krystian in goal so well done Krystian!
A draw would have been a fair result but to snatch the win is testiment to the boys character. Well Done Lads!!!
Sunday 18/9/2011
Wellingborough Town 16-0 Corby Kingswood
Scorers: Ryan Betts, Joseph Core, Jack Plummer, Abdul Salim (2), Ijuha Sterling (5), Alex Vargas and Joe Wenham (5).
Man of the Match: Wenham
A very one sided encounter in which Wellingborough Town dominated the game in all areas . In no particular order goals for Ryan Betts, Joseph Core, Jack Plummer, Abdul Salim (2), Ijuha Sterling (5), Alex Vargas and Joe Wenham (5).
I was particularly impressed with the boys mature attitude showing their opponents respect in this one sided affair, not getting carried away with their celebrations and keeping their shape when it would have been easy to commit players forward.
Well done boys.
Well done to Kingswood who battled to the end
Sunday 11/9/2011
Corby United 1-1 Wellingborough Town
Scorers: Core
Man of the Match: Whitlock
A closely contested Match between two committed teams.
Kicking up the hill and against the wind Wellingborough Town tried hard to keep the ball on the floor and put their strikers in with some good football. Chances for Sterling and Salim but Wellingborough could not find the net. At the other end Wellingborough Town dealt well with long balls over the top and a very pacy Corby United right winger.
0-0 at HT.
Corby United took the lead midway through the second half, taking advantage of a big gap between the Wellingborough Town Centre Back and Left Back. Things got worse for Wellingborough Town when Abdul Salim limped off with cramp leaving the team with just 10 players.
Wellingborough Town showed good character and committed plenty of players forward to search for the equalizer. Wellingborough Town scored a well deserved equalizer through Joe Core who got on the end of an in swinging Jack Plummer corner.
Further chances at both ends but a draw was a fair result.
Well done to both teams.![]() |
